Thanks for all of the feedback - positive and negative. It was none other than Pasolini who once quipped: "It is better to be hated than ignored." Certainly this seems true for life on the web, so keep those cards and letters coming.

The Syndicate of Human Image Traffickers is now at work with a film about Richard Foreman, avant-garde playwright. We plan to release this critter on Coilhouse, net and at www.humansyndicate.com IN FEBRUARY, so stay tuned!

Very impressive Jeff! I like the way you cut the sequences together and the film's physical quality was as clear as 35mm film. Out of the few segments I've seen you do, I like the one on Jo Boobs the most. Thought it was pretty tasteful too that this wasn't a "show me your tits"-style wank-off documentary to get close to burlesque dancers but instead could have even been created by a feminist who just wanted to make a good entertaining and enlightening film. I like how you blurred shots to keep the focus on what the character was saying. Keep up the good work! Look forward to seeing more work.

Hey, today on NPR I heard an interview with Cheech and Chong. The interviewer asked if their material has always been based so heavily around marijuana, and they said no, they started out performing in strip clubs, so there was a lot of "titties and buttocks--a lot of sex jokes." And the interviewer said, "Oh, so you were kind of working in the burlesque tradition...?" And they said, "Yeah, that's how we thought of ourselves--hippie burlesque."

So there's a new addition to the lexicon: Hippie burlesque.

Thanks I very much enjoyed this film as well as the rest of the page and links.I love the part were you point out because of all of the different body types it creates a type of intimacy, I have found this to be true .It would be nice if the film was longer.

Hey, this was cool! I like this woman--I enjoyed casting my male gaze upon her, haha. But no, I have a lot of respect for people who get involved in alternative culture and then become conversant in its broader history and meaning.

The only thing about the film is that the viewer keeps hoping to see some performance, but it's all talk--which is probably understandable, given the time constraints--it's just a bit of a tease. (Oh wait, burlesque itself is a tease--wow, it's like, a meta-burlesque...)

Oh, I also enjoyed the embedded Cramps vid. Nice job all around.

Jeff, you do intelligent work. The interview is great. You created a space for me to hear a voice I've never heard before - and I never considered trying to think about burlesque as different from stripping. Heretofore I saw them both as objectification. I see a different sense of "play," and expression and power holding/ sharing after having seen the film and read the rest of the interview. Film was great. Interesting, provocative, and very good conveyance.

Dear Visual Artist,

It's not the lighting, it's the workflow. The film looked fantastic until it was compressed and re-compressed (thus making it darker and more contrasty). You should see the original in Hi Def - it looks gorgeous. the one thing that sux about Blip - our video host - is that they add an extra re-compression step. We are considering moving to Vimeo.

I wish you'd added a link to your site so we can check out your work. Clearly, you've a discerning eye. We're always looking for good people to work with. Please contact us directly: humanimagesyn@gmail.com if interested. Thanks.
