The late Sydney Guilaroff was Hollywood’s most beloved and trusted hairdresser. Credited with making the unforgetable Lucille Ball a redhead, he was friend and confidant to some of the biggest stars in history.

In Roy Del Ruth’s Du Barry was a Lady Gularoff is reunited with Ball, indulging in all that is glorious and flamboyant with sky-high powdered wigs. His talents coupled with Gile Steele’s costuming prowess produce some enticing and hilarious hair concoctions, tricorn hats, ostrich feathers and all.

Lucille Ball looks smashing - out of 40’s housewife garb and dressed up as the famous courtesane. They’d make the real Du Barry proud!

@ Mer “Although I think DuBarry predates I Love Lucy, yarr?”

Oh yeah, this was during her more active film career…she wasn’t quite the superstar yet but her talents got her regular work. Unfortunately it just never clicked with audiences on the glam star level. Many kinda forget her career in the 30’s and 40’s. She did just about everything in that era. After I Love Lucy hit big in 53′ she’d never go back to such roles…don’t think she really missed them since by that era films began to take a new tone and new performers came into the fold.

The more glamor stuff she’d done before filled with everything from performers like Doris Day to Marilyn Monroe
