Meredith Dittmar’s Sculpture Boxes

Meredith Dittmar’s fantastic sculpture boxes are at once instantly familiar and refreshingly new. Certainly there is no lack of clean, minimalist, cartoon artwork on display across the internet, but it’s interesting to see how far a little physical depth can go in keeping the idea from being stale or redundant. Simple and fun, they have a dream-like quality I find irresistibly charming and engaging, inviting the viewer to look deeper and search out every little detail.

‘Meredith Dittmar’s fantastic sculpture boxes are at once instantly familiar and refreshingly new.’ is a perfect summation of why I’m pleased you shared this. I like the organic feeling of growth in these examples as well as the strong sense of composition that tends to come from a graphic art background.

OOooOOOo Pretty. Beyond that it’s also wonderfully creative in how it uses space, shapes, and forms in a 3D way. I don’t think they would be as good as flat illustrations or paintings.

Though some will argue the wood grain backgrounds are becoming a bit cliche at this point (and they would be WRONG) it comes alive much better here than in other works I’ve seen. It feels like part of the work not just a cool or pretentious background.

I adore the color in that first image. I need to hurry up and become a total sell out so I can afford these things. :P
