Doctor Sketchy’s Model Victim of Hate Crime

Don’t Hate by Ingrid

I often gush about Doctor Sketchy’s Anti Art School, but today the news is not so sunny. Last weekend in Portland, Maine a Sketchy’s model fell victim to a violent hate crime. Found unconscious on a sidewalk by a passing stranger, the 31 year old recalls little of the incident after sustaining a blow to the head. He was walking home after midnight on Friday, when two men approached him, spitting homophobic slurs and eventually resorting to violence, all because the young man “looked gay”. The victim, who suffered a concussion and bleeding to the brain, was released from Maine Medical Center to recover at home. The police are searching for the alleged perpetrators.

From Maine Today:

The suspects in this case are described as being in their early 20’s. One is a black male, between 5-feet-6-inches and 5-feet-10-inches tall, with a muscular build and shaved head or very short hair. The other suspect was described as a white male, thin build with long brown hair. The car they fled in was a late model white four-door sedan with “fancy” chrome wheels, police Captain Vernon Malloch said.

Anyone with information is asked to call Portland police at 874-8604 or visit the department’s Web site, www.police.portlandmaine.gov, and click on “citizen input”.

Just read this via Molly’s blog…so sickening that cowards like that get away with stuff like this. One of course hopes the victim in question gets all the care and support needed through all this…and that the community rallies around the case so this does not happen again.

The description of the suspect is little to go by unfortunately…still I hope someone is caught. It’s sad people still act this way and worse that guys like that have little to no guilt over these crimes. Hope someone randomly beats them into a coma…

Disgusting. It’s things like this that keep me on the fence about capital punishment. I hope the perps are found and…punished accordingly.

that really is just disgusting! i dont know, but the people who go out and commit these crimes, are they just idiotically bored?!
just today on the news, they are trying to capture some stupid teen boy, who posted a video of himself bashing a poor kangaroo… fucking cowards.

hear, hear…and ten to one the perps are themselves self-denying/heavily closeted gays. Nothing says misdirection quite like a bit of the old ultra-violence, after all
all hopes for a full and speedy recovery, mate

About 4 years ago i was beaten to the point of unconsciousness about 5 blocks from my home for the same reason, it was only with the greatest strength of will that I dragged myself from the ground at the words “I’m going to piss on this fag”

I’m not gay, but it doesn’t matter, the point remains the same, intollerance like this can not be allowed in a civil society, I hope the young man involved is ok, and that those responsible are caught and punished severely for bringing that level of rediculous behavior to Portland

When I lived in the shithole town of Battleground, WA for six months I nearly got jumped by three such idiots. I got away, but I could easily, easily been killed. I must have run a 4 minute mile.

When I told my housemates (all good suburbanite folk) about it, they asked “well, what did you do to piss them off?”

Monsters like that do evil because they can get away with it and it makes them look big to their worthless friends. I have some friends in the Pink Pistols I’d love to introduce them to.

Looks like we’ve all taken a beating at some point for stupid reasons. I got jumped back in my early teens by neo-nazi wannabes who kicked my ass cause they thought I was middle-eastern…didn’t dare tell anyone of course. Embarrassing enough being beat up let alone being beat up by idiots who can’t even get their own hatred right.

I’m not the traveling in groups type so for years after I was always unrealistically paranoid when out. People like that simply love to prey on those they feel are weak or can’t defend themselves. It’s why so many times it’s like 2 or 4 on 1…sickening.

What’s really bad is after you heal up…when you look at EVERYONE as a potential enemy. That stuck around well into my early 20’s.

One of the saddest parts of this is that Portland, ME has often been considered the *safest* place in Maine to be out–when I lived there in my young twenties, a lot of my peers were people who had moved from other parts of Maine, looking for a place to feel safe… I hope that everyone pulls together so that it can stay that way.
