Ryohei Hase: Stupid Bunny Suit, or Stupid Man Suit?
Men in bunny suits have been very much on my mind this week. Perhaps this has to do with the fact that the trailer for S. Darko, the sequel that should never have been made, is finally out. The original director is pissed that they’re ruining his masterpiece with a direct-to-DVD sequel, and none of the original cast, save for Donnie Darko’s kid sis, is involved. The trailer desperately tries to convince you that it really does have the same flavor as Donnie Darko by recycling the original film’s special FX, but without lines like “why don’t you suck a fuck” and “they don’t even have… reproductive organs under those little, white pants,” I just don’t see how that’s possible. Also: Jessie Spano from Saved by the Bell is in it. Yep. Between this, the Hellraiser ramake, the Neverending Story remake and the Clue remake, I’m just not sure my heart can bear any more! Maybe if they make Screech play Pinhead and Mr. Belding play Falkor, I’ll watch.
Back to bunny suits and man suits. The images above and below are slices from the hyperdetailed digital paintings of Japanese artist Ryohei Hase. They look great small, but to really see their splendor, go to his site, where you’ll be able to see every bristle and bead of moisture. The images in the section Meranchory (ha!) recall Zdzislaw Beksinski, while the visceral images of struggling animal-man beasts remind me of the daily grind, which, reduced to its bare components, sometimes feels very much like these pictures.

Hold up, hold up, pretty paintings aside… they are doing a Clue remake!?!
DAMMIT! Is nothing sacred anymore?

Good lord, there’s a lot of human/animal hybridization on our front page right now. When did we get so perverted?
(Wait… don’t answer that.)

Speaking of perverts, Dustin Diamond as Pinhead can’t be half as disturbing as Dustin Diamond doing Dirty Sanchez porn.

“Saved by the Smell.” I shit you not. Pun intended.

Wait wait wait…there is a Clue remake in the works? Somebody is going to have to hold me, pet my hair, and tell me that this bit of news was all a bad dream.

Jack, yeah, I’d actually rather watch scat porn than ANY of those remakes.

Clue Remake! Yeah… apparently, Gore Verbinski has been hired to direct it!
Mer: SCREECH, NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! AAAAAAAH!
February 26th, 2009 at 6:20 pm
To add insult to injury…Gore Verbinski is at the helm?
Group hug, Coilhouse?

On a sunnier note…that Lynch/Herzog movie starts shooting next month…
…and holy shit! Check out the new cast of weirdos: http://www.indiewire.com/article/three_join_cast_of_herzog_lynch_collaboration/
I’m hoping it’ll be so titanically strange that it blinks all of these shitty cannibalized remakes out of existence like anti-matter.

Verbinski’s probably the best possible choice of mainstream-ish directors for the Clue remake. Forget about the Pirates trilogy (which I will still defend to the death, but that’s besides the point), and take a look at Mouse Hunt (for the screwball antics) and The Mexican (for the black humour).
The super-bestest choice would be the Coen Brothers, but we simply don’t live in a world where they can direct everything.

Skerror, thanks for that link! If this film isn’t made amazing by the unholy Lynch/Herzog union, I will be sorely disappointed.

Awesome gallery.
Isn’t that Falcor in the top of the second image though?

Falcor the Urinator or Falkor the Luckdragon? ;)

I’m actually (for once) really looking forward to the Hellraiser remake. Pascal Laugier is directing and Clive Barker is producing. When I saw his last movie Martyrs in TIFF this asian man behind me broke out in dry heaves and someone else had a heart attack because it was so disturbing (OK maybe not 100% free of plot holes but whatever). I haven’t seen that many people walk out of a movie ever. I’m curious what they’ll do for Cenobite wardrobes this time around. Hopefully something shiny…. And the engineer had better actually be a woman (or at least more androgynous) this time around.

That artwork is worlds of awesome.
That sequel is worlds of hell. One more remake and some film guy is going to get his ass kicked.

When it comes to man-sized bunnies, the only one for me is the one Jimmy Stewart spends his time with in “Harvey.” This movie just melts my heart, over and over. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IYU6mSIF8ww

They did a Neverending story and Clue remake?? *feels sad*

The image of the densely packed, scrambling humanoid rabbits immediately reminds me of the scene in Watership Down in which the hapless bunnies were being gassed to death in their clogged tunnels.
That scene traumatized me to the point where I was having nightmares about blue rabbits.

CLUE REMAKE?! FUCKING NO!!
That is in my Top 5 favorite movies. This will be a travesty without Tim Curry.

Werebunnies and werepups living the modern daily grind? Thumbs way up.
I’m torn over the Hellraiser remake. Fri the 13th…much as I love the mythology, those movies sucked. The character deserved a redo. TCM…sorry, I love both the original and the new version. RZ’s Halloween? JeBUS what a suck fest. We also have a NoES redo coming. But those films actually merit some new vision.
Hellraiser, like Dawn of the Dead (Although, I dug the new Dawn, but fuck fast zombies.) simply doesn’t call for the remake treatment. I’d be happier if Barker’d stick to developing more of the Books of Blood yarns into film stuff. Midnight Meat Train made me very, very happy.

Seriously beautiful and nightmare inducing art. I like it needless to say.
In terms of remakes. BRING THEM ON!!!!
Why you ask? Cause I had to endure the “Alfie” remake with Sienna Miller AND Marisa Tomei!!!! So if I had to tour hell for a couple of hours then so do the lot of you.
It’s what friends do right? ;)
Seriously though…I’m all for The Neverending Story to get a remake…cause that movie sucked. There I said it. The Neverending Story was a horrible horrible horrible movie.
(Yes Nadya, I know I just signed my death warrant.)
