A Video Movie Could Improve Your Life

Jhayne did it again. She made my day:

(Where on earth do you find these gems, love?)

No doubt I’m a jaded soul for questioning the sincerity of Fred Spencer and his lovely wife Sharon. Then again, I was raised on the deadpan weirdness of David Lynch. In a hyper-ironic meme world brimming with Tims, Erics, Liams, and Saschas, it’s impossible for this charismatic couple from Kelowna, BC to remain above suspicion. But… I want to believe!

What do you think? Friends, or faux? Either way, what’s not to love?

I think these people are legit. This kind of stuff is actually going on in the world! If it’s not though, I don’t mind being the butt of their joke…it’s really well done.

Speaking of butts and jokes, my dad said I can sell the poop tube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FfFR5y5wD4c

  2. Mer Says:

Oh, man. I really want to believe these guys are in earnest. So lovable! I have shelves and shelves of pre-Youtube bootleg tapes of public access television shows and late night local commercials that I began collecting and trading obsessively while I was still in high school. I kinda miss those days… you really had to search to find gems like Fred and Sharon.

  3. Tequila Says:

I must hire them…if only to sell an RV with animation of a weird monster thing trying to eat it at the end.

I hope this is legit…cause they are a gold mine of possibilities.

  4. Jerem Morrow Says:

AAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHH!!! Reminds me of WEIRD TV. Oh, ze hours upon hours I lost to that beautiful LATE night show.

  5. DJ Velveteen Says:

Absolutely surreal. Dali, eat your heart out.

  6. Mer Says:

Seriously! I haven’t been this delightfully befuddled since Reh Dogg unleashed “Why Must I Cry upon an unsuspecting world.

  7. Lauren Says:

Mer, I saw this and was like- Mer posted this, I know it.

  8. Mer Says:

Hee hee hee…. I just sent this to the DDs. Brian wrote back “HOLY FUCKING SHIT WE’VE FOUND THE NEXT DRESDEN DOLLS VIDEO! Production crew, ho! Lets get these people on the phone for a conference.”

  9. Lauren Says:

Dude yes. I can see it now! What about animation?!?!?!

I’d totally ask to be the production photographer.

  10. Jerem Morrow Says:

    Why must I cry…

    Mer…just…I have nothing…there’s nothing I can say…just…FUCK!?!?

It’s like Wesley Willis, but more cracktastic.

  11. Skerror Says:

These videos just get better and better…there’s sooo much funny shit going on…

If the Dresden Dolls actually get Fred and Sharon to direct a video, I will sprout rainbow wings and fly to happy land :D Seriously, someone needs to get the Spencers to the next level stat!

  12. Brock McCoy Says:

(Proceeds to flush “Why Must I Cry” out of his brain with The Doom Song)

    Ah, now I feel better.

  13. Tequila Says:

@Mer…Oh holy hell that would make the world 10X more awesome if that happens…*crosses unholy fingers*

  14. Mer Says:

Bwaaaah! I’m pretty sure this is how ridiculous interwub rumours get started. (He vass yolking, peep holes.)

  15. tDIYm Says:

Yep, they’re legit alright. I worked with her!!! BWAH HA HA HA HA HA HA!!!

  16. Mer Says:

tDIYm. Oh no you did uhnt. (Did you? Rrrreeeally?)

  17. Violaine Says:

Oh my god, that was amazing. I too felt like I was transported back to the days of ye olde public access. I love the delivery! And the clip of Sascha with the skinheads? HAH.

And actually when I see things like this, these earnest types of efforts, I worry about the cruelty of the internet. If these are real people (and not some ironic marketing geniuses), then I worry about how they are going to feel reading all the comments that are going to start pouring in now that they’ve been discovered. Hopefully the internet-fame will bring them prosperity and not misfortune. It would break my heart if this elderly, earnest couple suffered from this exposure.

  18. Mer Says:

Violaine, their videos are endearing and wonderful. It gives me much joy and renewed faith in humanity to know that good-hearted, genuine goofiness like this can still exist and thrive… I sincerely hope it’s not wrong of me to want to share these clips, and that the Spencers will benefit from any publicity they receive as a result. Anyone stupid or base enough to be cruel towards them ain’t worth acknowledging.

  19. Skerror Says:

I think my favorite bit is when Sharon is trying to sell us on a video for “prom night or a special evening out” and in the background there’s those rubber gloved Argento madman hands doing god knows what :D

Fred and Sharon seem like they’d be too cool and secure in their own world to let any internet words get them down. If they came across anything hateful, they’d just tai chi the situation. “I guess this hoser doesn’t want an animation eh Sharon?”

  20. foxtongue Says:

    *bows* You’re more than welcome.

  21. Tequila Says:

“…Anyone stupid or base enough to be cruel towards them ain’t worth acknowledging…”

Anyone that does that will simply have to be taken out back and roughed up a little.

We’d all be better off if the world had more genuine goofiness and heart like that displayed in the videos…we’d totally sell more RV’s too and Prom videos would be epic good fun to watch again and again.

  22. tDIYm Says:

Oh yeah, I did really. And other than their looks, I still work with a lot like her, just not quite as lively as she is.

  23. tDIYm Says:

especially good is at the end “A video movie could improve your life”. what better endorsement for the life improvement aspect than fred and sharon themselves?

  24. Paul Komoda Says:

Okay, I confess, I was a little slow on the draw here.
Nadya had the good taste to redirect me to the fact that Coilhouse beat the world the punch with this one. Fred and Sharon have brought back my fond memories of SCTV.

Skerror, you’re right about that black Argento glove on the hand of that powerfully hairy arm. It seems to imply all manner of untold brutalization to come, consensual or not.
“Fred, our anniversary’s coming up…” is the best delivered line by far, in measure with the visual that accompanies it.

Jerem, it’s awesome to see that there’s some Wesely Willis appreciation out there!
